I always get incredulous looks from mothers and grooms when I inquire about the wedding website in invitation meetings. “Seriously? What on earth is that for?!” is the usual response.
The biggest reason to use a wedding website is that very few people have a wedding that isn’t largely a destination wedding — so few of us live near family anymore that no matter where you have it, chances are a good portion of the guests travel. A website allows you to keep people continually updated on itinerary, accommodations, directions, and more. It’s also a great place to put your registry, which you should never include in your printed pieces (except the shower).
So I put together a short list of some resources to create your wedding website…
The Knot
Offers free and premium themes.
Wedding Jojo
Offers free and premium themes. I like that this one has a bit more of a unique feel to it than some of the bigger sites.
MyWedding.com
Over 600 free wedding website designs.
Wedding Window
Free site with upgrade options.
Wedding Wire
Free wedding website with 120 theme options.
an alternative option
Another great way to do this is simply to sign up for a blog at WordPress.com. You’ll have a lot more control over the website in general (how many pages, etc.), it’s free, and they make buying a domain really simple. There is no reason to pay more than $10-$12 for a domain! A lot of the other websites get you on that.
So, did you / have you set up a wedding website? Do you think they’re a good idea?
